Opinion

Arguments about the future of Scugog.

Opinion is clearly separated from news and Council reporting.

As a 25-year-old who grew up in Port Perry, I am beginning to ask a question many people my age eventually face: is this where I want to spend the next fifty years?

Every generation in Scugog has inherited the work of the people before it. Previous generations built arenas, parks, schools, libraries, waterfront spaces and the Fairgrounds themselves.

We cannot keep growing as a town while expecting the same public spaces to serve more people without changing, improving or expanding them.

When people say there is nothing to do in Port Perry, they are not necessarily asking for a city. They are asking for opportunities: walking, pickleball, courts, events and places to gather without joining a league.

Communities are not remembered only for the houses they approved. They are remembered for the places where people gathered, stayed active and made memories together.

What will our generation leave behind?
